Mature Content Advisory
Zaide is the story of a man and a woman captured and held against their will in a foreign land. In this production, their love story unfolds against a frank and realistic depiction of their lives in harsh captivity, and some scenes are violent in nature. The content of the performance may therefore be more ideally suited to more mature audiences.
Escape to Freedom!
A man and a woman, captured and held against their will in a foreign land, find love in one another’s arms. They also find a kindred spirit in a compassionate and brave prison guard who engineers their escape. East meets west, and goodness triumphs over oppression.
Mozart began this story of love and danger when he was 22, and he lavished some of his most beautiful music on this young couple. Complications of life and career intervened, though, and he never had a chance to finish this exotic opera. At The Barns, the audience will determine how the story ends – tragically or benevolently.
“Be bold, my heart, and try your luck.
Create a better destiny for yourself.
Don’t give up.
By bravery the weak can defeat the strong.”
