Chris Isaak

GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Chris Isaak begins his Summer 2010 tour at Wolf Trap. Isaak returns to the familiar performance space after the success of his 2009 album Mr. Lucky, which reached No. 10 on Billboard’s Rock Albums chart that year. Isaak taught himself guitar while growing up in Stockton, California. Often described as “rockabilly with a contemporary twist,” Isaak’s inspirations in Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, and country music are readily heard in his songs of love and heartbreak. His 1985 debut Silverstone found critical acclaim, and his 1991 hit “Wicked Game” peaked at the No. 6 position on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. In performance, Isaak is celebrated for his humor, wry self-depreciation, and good nature.

Marc Broussard

Soulful guitarist Marc Broussard returns to Wolf Trap for the first time in four years on July 12 at 8 p.m. Broussard’s latest release, Keep Coming Back, captures the vibrant intensity of his live performance. Praised by Allmusic.com as “modern and sophisticated yet crackling funky Louisiana blue-eyed soul; [Keep Coming Back] should be heard by anyone with a pulse.” With most tracks performed in just one take, this album is a true representation of the live performance style that has earned him so many fans.

The B-52s

with Special Guest Supercluster

Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 8 p.m.

$40 in-house; $25 lawn

The B-52s

The B-52s light up the Filene Center stage with their free-spirited, fun pop music for the first time in three years. In 2008 this iconic 80s pop band released Funplex, their first album in 16 years. The record adds a contemporary twist to their recognizably playful party-pop heard in hits like “Love Shack,” “Rock Lobster,” and “Roam.” In 2008 Funplex spent seven weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, and peaked at No. 5 on the Rock Albums chart. The title song, Funplex, met critical acclaim and spent 14 weeks on Billboards Dance/Club Party Songs chart, peaking at No. 14.

Supercluster

Hitting the Wolf Trap stage for the first time is Supercluster, hailing from the musical hotbed of Athens, Georgia. Supercluster draws inspiration from hometown heroes The B-52s and R.E.M. The group’s combination of acoustic and angular guitars, as well as cello, clarinet, violins, and mandolins creates a unique blend of folk music and rock.

Tickets range $20 - $52

Idina Menzel

Tony Award-winner Idina Menzel takes the spotlight on the Wolf Trap stage for the first time alongside the legendary Marvin Hamlisch. Menzel performs songs from her new album I Stand along with hits from the blockbuster Broadway musicals that brought her fame. She first received critical acclaim originating the role of Maureen in Rent, then again in her starring role as the misunderstood, green Elphaba in Wicked. Other Broadway credits include Franny Brice in Funny Girl, and Amneris in AIDA. Most recently, Menzel joined the cast of Fox’s ground-breaking, Golden Globe-winning series, Glee. Considered a powerhouse of talent, she keeps her fans coming back with her strong, emotional performances.

Marvin Hamlisch

The esteemed Marvin Hamlisch returns to the Filene Center to team up with Idina Menzel and the NSO. Hamlisch’s history with Wolf Trap is extensive; he conducted the NSO in Broadway-themed performances every year from 2003-2009, and spoke as the organization’s special guest at the National Press Club in 2008. Arguably one of the most prolific composer/conductors alive, Hamlisch is accomplished on Broadway, in television, and in film. He has won virtually every award imaginable: three Oscars, four GRAMMYs, four EMMYs, a TONY, and three Golden Globes. Additionally, his revolutionary musical A Chorus Line won a Pulitzer Prize.

B.B. King

with Special Guest Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real

Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 8 p.m.

$42 in-house; $25 lawn

B.B. King

After a year away from the Filene Center stage, GRAMMY award-winner B.B. King returns to Wolf Trap with Lucille, his famed guitar in tow. King’s 2008 album One Kind Favor met critical acclaim and spent an impressive 58 weeks on Billboards Blues Albums chart, peaking at the #1 position. With a remarkable 15 GRAMMY’s to his name, B.B. King is universally recognized as king of the blues. His accolades continue with a Presidential Medal in the Arts, a Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY Award, and an induction in to both the Blues Foundation and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Billboard raves about King: “His bent notes and staccato picking style have influenced legions of contemporary bluesmen, while his gritty and confident voice…provides a worthy match for his passionate playing.”

Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real

Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real make their Wolf Trap debut as special guests for the iconic B.B. King. While Nelson has adopted some of the country-blues singing of his father Willie Nelson, his style is certainly all his own. This blues-rock artist jams with long guitar solos, seemingly inspired by Robert Cray or Stevie Ray Vaughan. Currently in his first tour, Nelson has already earned plenty of praise, and appears to be living up to the expectations set with such an iconic father.
