The Batties, as they're known to their fans, take their name from the Battlefield suburb of Glasgow. The arrive in support of their late-2009 release, ZAMA ZAMA.
With their inception in 1969, they have proven to be one of the longest running institutions of Scottish music. Band lineups have changed throughout time, but Alan Reid has remained the constant rock and an invaluable factor in the band’s success and longevity. Other members are Mike Katz (pipes, whistles, bass guitar), Sean O'Donnell (vocals/guitar), and Alasdair White (fiddle/whistle/banjo/bazouki/Highland and small pipes/bodhran).
For 30 years the band has been training ground for a number of great Scottish musicians, and has built a reputation upon continuous creative changes, freshness, and enthusiasm. The Washington Post describes their music as, “contagious Celtic funk.”

Comprised of four virtuoso instrumentalists, Antares draws from a cosmic and colorful repertoire for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano, as well as all their various trio and duo combinations. Hailed by The Chicago Tribune as “powerful,” “striking” and “razor-sharp,” Antares' high-energy performance style and remarkable ensemble dynamic led to the quartet's selection as First Prize winner of the 2002 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. In addition to its 2005 release Eclipse, featuring six captivating new works, Antares has also recorded Ned Rorem's, The End of Summer, on the Newport Classics label and Fred Lerdahl's, Marches, which was released in 2006 by Bridge Records. Gramophone Magazine said it best: Antares has “the gift of making whatever they’re playing seem the most important piece in the world”.
